Laser treatment for nail fungus is safe, fast, and effective.
Fungul nail infections affect nearly 1 in 6 of us, causing nails to become thick, yellow and brittle in a way that looks pretty ugly and can be painful. Sufferers can spend years and hundreds of dollars trying to clear the infection with drugs, topical treatments and home remedies, sometimes to no avail. It tends to be a cosmetic issue for the younger set and if left untreated, a painful issue as you age. The FDA has cleared the use of laser on toenail fungus since 2009. Compared to oral medication like Lamisil (which has been associated with rare cases of serious liver problems), there is no side effects with laser treatments and the odds of success are better.

How does the laser clear nail treatment work?
Impulses of high power laser energy pass through the nail to the nail bed and nail growth area with typically no damage to the nail or surrounding skin. At the time of the procedure, no visible change is seen until the nail begins to grow out. In a few months, a more normal nail is expected to appear with complete regrowth of the nail taking up to 9-12 months.
What is the recovery period?
No post treatment pain has been reported. You may resume all normal activities immediately. If you have any problems or questions, please contact our office.
Is the procedure painful?
Most people do not feel any pain. Some patients may experience slight warmth or occasional snapping sensation during the procedure. If you have any pain during the procedure, the laser power can be decreased slightly to eliminate any pain. No anesthesia is needed.
How long does a laser clear nail treatment take?
The amount of time varies on the degree of involvement of the nails. Very thick nails are mechanically reduced to a more normal thickness with specialized equipment. The laser is then applied typically taking only a few minutes.
Can I polish my nails or have a pedicure?
You can apply polish to the nail immediately after the laser treatment. However, it is important to remove all nail polish prior to your treatment.
What laser do you use?
Cynosure’s elite Aesthetic Workstation (FDA-Approved) is the most comprehensive aesthetic workstation available today. Since it’s designed for all skin types, we can treat the broadest range of clients.
In addition to hair removal, the system is optimized for effective treatment of facial and leg veins, as well as benign epidermal pigmented lesions.
Easy, Safe, Effective and Fast
• The 755-nm wavelength has high melanin absorption characteristics and proven long-term results for permanent hair reduction and pigmented lesion removal.
• The high-powered 1064-nm Nd:YAG is the safest wavelength for permanent hair reduction on darker skin types and tanned skin. It is also the wavelength of choice for treatment of facial and leg veins—the most common form of vascular lesions.
• The Elite delivers high fluence from large spot sizes—ensuring deeper penetration, faster treatment sessions & optimal results.
• Unlike equipment with predetermined parameters, the Elite includes a variety of spot sizes and adjustable pulse durations—allowing us to customize treatments to accommodate your specific needs.
“I have used Cynosure Alexandrite lasers [as found in the Elite Aesthetic Workstation] since 1997. I have found them to be the most effective, safest and fastest lasers for hair removal. My patients have been consistently satisfied with their results while having minimal, if any, downtime associated with their treatments.”
